IMRaD Report- Abstract/ Introduction

Introduction
Education is a mandatory aspect of an individual's life from kindergarten to as late as twelfth grade. After high school graduation, teens finally obtain the freedom to make decisions about their future facing the options of going to community college, a four year university, or straight to work. This is an overwhelming decision considering a majority of millennials are not set on their expectations of the future. Although society today drills the idea of college into minds of high schoolers, furthering one's education is easier said than done. Research provides an example of this academic uneasiness through a survey conducted to current college students.

Methods
Participants: 23 male and female students participated in this survey. Every participant was currently enrolled in a four year university.

Data Sources: A survey was created on surveymonkey. It included 7 questions regarding how academically prepared high school students are for college courses. 4 of these questions were multiple choice, 2 of them were yes or no responses, and 1 was an open response question.

Procedure: I posted this survey on my blog for my peers in class to respond to, as well as on Facebook so that I could obtain responses from students attending different universities.

Data Analysis: I analyzed the data and created graphs in order to display the results to an audience.

  1. To strengthen your introduction adding background information on your topic would be very useful. Also for background on your topic you could tell what studies have already been done and what the results of those studies were. Lastly you might want to ad a section on data analysis as it was in the handout Hem gave us in the Methods section.

  3. The introduction was pretty good in my opinion. It clearly states why the topic is important and relevant for research, and uses good language to make the point very clear and concise. I would try to find some outside research that supports your point and include it in the introduction. This will allow your research to be more viable than without it.

The methods section was very clear and easy to understand. It clearly states who the participants are, how the research was done/how the answers were obtained, and how the data is analyzed. If there was one thing that I would change, I would take the specifics about the questions (in the data sources section) and shift it to the introduction.
